The Riviera Polo Shirt traces its origins to the 1950s, when Sunspel developed a lightweight mesh fabric designed for warm days on the French Riviera. The style was later adapted for Daniel Craig’s debut as James Bond in Casino Royale, and has remained an enduring part of the collection ever since.
Cut in the same slim, modern silhouette as the original, this limited-edition version marks the 20th anniversary of the film. It is crafted from Sea Island cotton, widely regarded as the world’s finest. Its exceptionally long staple length creates a fabric that is remarkably smooth, breathable and soft against the skin.

The world’s finest and rarest cotton
Renowned for its beautifully soft handle, Sea Island cotton is the most luxurious cotton in the world. Reaching up to 50mm, it has the longest staple length of all cotton types – 50% longer than standard extra-long staple cotton – creating softer, more durable fabrics that are so smooth Queen Victoria mistook them for silk.
It is also the rarest cotton in the world. Grown by specialists in the Caribbean, each filament is picked by hand to ensure no strand is damaged. A mere 150 bales are produced each year accounting for just 0.00002% of global supply, and these are spun by experts in Switzerland, who, like us, have been working with this unique fibre for well over a century.
