Classic Boxer Short
Sunspel introduced the boxer short to Britain in 1947, with the aim of creating something lighter and more comfortable.
The design features Sunspel’s distinctive back panel to avoid a central seam, along with smoothed, double-turned seams for comfort. Cut from super-fine, long-staple cotton, it is breathable and soft against the skin. Sunspel’s boxer short became widely recognised after appearing in Levi’s iconic 1985 advertising campaign and is still made to the same principles today.

The British Boxer Short
Sunspel introduced the boxer short to Britain in 1947, at a time when underwear was still largely utilitarian. The aim was simple: to create something lighter, more comfortable and better made.
The design was refined through a series of practical improvements that remain part of the boxer short today. Sunspel introduced its distinctive back panel to avoid an uncomfortable central seam, smoothed the construction with double-turned, feldlocked seams, and switched to a super-fine, long-staple cotton that feels light and breathable against the skin.
The style became widely recognised in the 1980s, when Sunspel's boxer short appeared in Levi’s iconic 1985 advertising campaign. With only minor tweaks since, Sunspel still produces the boxer short to its original specifications, focusing on comfort, simplicity and thoughtful design.
