Lambswool

Lambswool comes from the first shearing the sheep receives and is the softest wool it ever produces. Our lambswool is an extra fine 18.5 micron Geelong, sourced from non-mulesed sheep and then manufactured entirely in Scotland, a country renowned for its historic knitwear production.

The lambswool yarn is spun by one of the world’s oldest spinners, Todd and Duncan, based on the banks of Loch Leven outside Edinburgh. We work closely with the spinner to create twists in the colour, giving us unique tones which are exclusive to Sunspel. The yarn is then knitted by a specialist manufacturer in Scotland, using seamless machines which eliminate waste as well as making garments that feel comfortable on the shoulders.

Each garment is washed in crystal clear Scottish water using the natural softness of the water to break down any hardness in the fibres. Scotland is unique in having this water – in most other countries softeners and chemicals are needed to create such a soft hand-feel. The result is a jumper of extraordinary softness that rivals the feel of cashmere and is perfect for winter layering.
